There is Only Ever This Moment |
Elle J. Snyder

We are arguing about something stupid.
Our knives make contact in perfect unison.
They are hanging a young woman in the woods,
their masks are made of sticks.
I’m killing you
BECAUSE
I love you.
Everyone thanks me for a good death.
We are arguing about something stupid.
They’ve formed a ritual in our living room.
Our son can hear us.
I never knew my best mate was made of guts.
It was all fun, until it was real.
They are chanting our words back to us.
And finally, I hear what you’re saying.
