There is Only Ever This Moment |

Elle J. Snyder

We are arguing about something stupid.

Our knives make contact in perfect unison.

They are hanging a young woman in the woods,

their masks are made of sticks.

I’m killing you

BECAUSE

I love you.

Everyone thanks me for a good death.

We are arguing about something stupid.

They’ve formed a ritual in our living room.

Our son can hear us.

I never knew my best mate was made of guts.

It was all fun, until it was real.

They are chanting our words back to us.

And finally, I hear what you’re saying.

Elle J. Snyder (she/her) is a trans woman, poet, and weredolphin from Staten Island. You can most often find her eating tiny crabs that wash up on a dirty beach, or haunting your bathroom mirror (shouting really nice things at you). Her work recently appears in: Sardine Can Collective, Discretionary Love, Unendurable, Backyard Lit, et.al. She is also the new spokeswoman for Jane Link's Meat Sticks- "Cause Women Need Meat Too".
