Settle, petal | Ellie Cottrell

This time we went to a winery,
white petals in the pepper
of our hair.
We sat on the same side
of the booth, the wine guy
smiling indulgently
thinking
we were new.
God, he thought he knew.
/
And it’s not really you,
I get that - but baby,
this is the thousandth
turn we’ve taken.
On the drive home,
we pulled over like
we were nineteen again.
/
Before I woke up
you said, I know
I’m not welcome here -
you’ll come back
anyway.
Baby, there’s a thousand
turns still to go.
